How to get rid of blackheads? - Beautizone UK

How to get rid of blackheads?

What are blackheads?

"Blackheads are just an oxidized mix of oil and dead skin cells that are sitting in pores, [and] the exposure to air is what causes them to oxidize and turn black," explains Rachel Nazarian, a dermatologist of Schweiger Dermatology Group in New York City. Blackheads are the type of acne and these pesky bumps can also appear on these parts of the body: back, neck, chest, arms and shoulders. Blackheads are exposed, not covered with the skin.

Want to know, how you were treating your skin so far? As most people try to get rid of blackheads at home without following the proper way. They seem to be fighting with blackheads, most of them do not know either these are blackheads or clogged pores, so they should use pore products accordingly. Clogged pores and blackheads look similar but clogged pores are not acne. A few changes in your skincare routine can be effective to get rid of blackheads and breakouts. People must have patience while treating blackheads. Here are some useful steps and Beautizone’s products that can eliminate bacteria, make your skin smooth and blackheads free.

Factors of developing blackheads

  • Age
  • Hormonal changes
  • Secretion of Body oil
  • Blocking of pores due to makeup and clothes.
  • Sweating
  • Humid weather
  • Some health problems
  • Smoking

As blackheads are the sign of acne, oily and combination skin but they are not inflammatory, red and swollen, still you shouldn’t squeeze and scrub them, they can get worse because of it and can wreak havoc on the skin. If you are having persistent acne and blackheads then you must contact your dermatologist. There are some types of effective treatments to get rid of blackheads such as, light and laser therapy, chemical peels, topical application (benzoyl peroxide, antibiotics, retinoids, salicylic acid, sulfur) and manual removal.

Treatment and prevention

According to Dr. Tzu, "There are many ways to remove blackheads you just have to be careful to avoid irritating or damaging the surrounding skin while removing them."

Blackheads cannot be removed forever, they can form again. If you are not having severe acne then over-the-counter ingredients (that doesn’t require prescription) can help to get rid of blackheads i-e salicylic acid, sulfur and retinoid. Retinoid may not work for the people with dry skin.

Salicylic acid is the best ingredient, it not only removes blackheads but also prevent them from forming again. Use this acid with lowest concentration to avoid irritation.

Sulfur is another gentle and drying ingredient, but you must use it with a lowest concentration to see whether it works well or not. People with dry skin cannot use it.

Retinoids are effective for treating acne but they are harsh as well.

Ways to treat blackheads

  • Wash your face twice a day with a gentle cleanser (cleanser that suits your skin), then apply toner on your skin that helps tighten the open pores. Do remember to cleanse your skin regularly so there would be less chances of getting blackheads. Do not over wash your face because it can remove essential oils and cause breakouts.
  • Massage in a circular motion while focusing on the nose and forehead.
  • Dry your face but do not rub it too hard.
  • Moisturizing is an essential part of skincare routine, even if you have oily skin. Use moisturizers according to your skin type. Moisturizers can keep the balance in the skin.
  • Exfoliation is another important step to avoid blackheads. It will prevent the dead skin to clog the pores and cause blackheads. Try not to exfoliate active acne or blackheads. Use exfoliants once or twice a week.
  • Use mask, especially clay masks twice a week to unclog the pores.
  • Tap your face with warm wet cloth or steam your face to soften the blackhead area before removing the blackheads.
  • Sleeping in makeup can cause damage to your skin and are likely to clog the pores. So it’s better to remove makeup before going to bed. Use oil free makeup products even sunscreen.
  • People with dry skin should use water based products.
  • If you are habitual of popping your blackheads then stop it now, as it can only cause more pimples, help growing more bacteria and acne scarring.
  • Do not let the dead skin and oil accumulate in the pores.
  • Your hair must be clean from oil and keep it away from your face.
  • Wash your face or take shower after strenuous activities to wash away heavy sweating.
  • You can use electronic skincare devices to get rid of blackheads once or twice a week.
  • Avoid unhealthy and high in fat food.
